Baby Visits!

Thanks to all the parents who came out to Parent-Teacher Interviews last week. It was great to see so many of you! If you couldn't get here last week, feel free to stop in any time to see how your child is doing, and to see his or her work.

This week in our kindergarten class, we are talking about babies. On Thursday, November 26th from 11-11:30 am, we are inviting babies (and toddlers) into our classroom. Check out the invitation in your kindergarten child's homework duotang.

Kindergarten Homework:
*Finish homework duotang and game by Friday.
*Practice tricky words (be, was) and sounds each night.
*Read your guided reading book on the night it comes home, and answer one question in your reading response journal.
*In December, the children will be able to choose a book each night to take home if they wish and are ready.

Reminders:
*Wednesday, November 25th is the preK meeting for all parents and children who are coming to kindergarten next year.

Report Card Time!

Report Cards went home today with your child. Please take the time to read over the report card with your child, and sign the envelope and note about parent-teacher interviews and send them back. You can keep the actual report card and anything else that is in the envelope.

Parent-Teacher Interviews are Wednesday from 6-8pm and Thursday from 9-11am. Remember there is no school on Thursday and Friday for students. They love the fact that they only have 3 days this week, but the teachers still have to go for 5 days!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be going on in the library during Parent-Teacher Interviews.

Please complete the parent perception survey and return it to your child's homeroom teacher in the envelope provided.

Please don't forget to support the two worthy causes that K-2 are sponsoring at this time: change/money to buy books for children in far off lands through World Vision; and small children's toys and toiletries to send to children in Afghanistan at Christmas, through Trevor O'Neill who is a soldier from Grand Manan currently serving in Afghanistan.

Kindergarten Homework is due on Wednesday of this week (Homework duotang - no game this week because it is so short, but some people still need to send back games from last week).

We Will Remember Them!

Remembrance Day is on Wednesday, November 11th, so there will be no school that day. Please take a moment to talk with your child about why we celebrate Remembrance Day, and about what and who we are remembering. Don't forget the Remembrance Day Service in the Great Hall at 10:30 am on November 11th.

We would like to welcome a new student to our class, Taylor Jacquard. She has just moved here from Nova Scotia.

Happy Birthday to Isabella on November 12th!

Homework for Kindergarten:
*Finish homework duotang and game by Friday.
*Practice sounds and tricky words every night.
*This week we are doing Guided Reading for the first time, so your child will bring home a book to read to you one day this week. Please record the book in their reading log, and help them to answer one question in their reading response journal.

Reminders:
*We are all testing and writing report cards this week, so please be here if at all possible so we can get everything done.
*Report cards will go home on Monday, November 16th.
*Parent-Teacher Interviews will be Wednesday, November 18th from 6-8pm and Thursday, November 19th from 9-11am. In the afternoon of the 19th, and all day the 20th, the teachers have professional development sessions and meetings, so the students have a four-day weekend.
*Don't forget to send in some change for books for childrenat a school in a needy area, sponsered through World Vision.
*We are also trying to collect some small toys, hair accesseries, and other items to send to children in Afghanistan for Christmas. The items will be sent to Trevor O'Neill who is serving in Afghanistan, and he will distribute whatever we send to the children there.

H1N1 Flu Shots

H1N1 Flu Shots for elementary students will be tomorrow. The plan so far is to start with grade five in the morning, and then work their way down. This means that K-2 should be starting around lunch time, although we won't know for sure until we see how things go. You are welcome to be there with your child if you like. If you send me a phone number where I can reach you around noon time, I will try to call and let you know approximate times if possible.

Welcome to November!

**Dance is cancelled this week because Ms. Kilburn is away.**

*Elementary Drama is Wednesday from 3-4pm on the stage.

*Elementary Drama will perform a short play entitled "Mother Goose's Goose is Loose" on December 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Great Hall, and on the morning of December 3rd for the elementary school.

*Please get your H1N1 flu shots permission slip in ASAP, and remember to check either "yes" or "no". I am still missing three from our homeroom.

*Flu shots will be on either Thursday or Friday. I will post a more detailed message as soon as I know anything.

*Book orders are due tomorrow, November 3rd.

*Kindergarten will visit the Fire Station on Thursday at 9am.

*Kindergarten Homework is due on Friday (Duotang and game), and don't forget to practice your tricky words and sounds each night.

*We will start Guided Reading in Kindergarten next week, so watch for a book to come home for your child to read to you.

*Report cards will probably go home on November 16th.

*Parent-teacher interviews will be on Wednesday evening, November 18th, and Thursday morning, November 19th. The students do not have school on either the 19th or 20th of November, so if you need to travel somewhere this month, that gives you a great long weekend.

*There will be a pre-K meeting for all parents and children who will attend kindergarten next year on November 25th from 6-8 pm. During this time, the children will participate in activities in the K-2 classrooms, and they will take home a Welcome to Kindergarten bag full of goodies. If you know of anyone who has a child coming to kindergarten next year, please remind them to stop at the school office and register their child.
